SeaChem product line

Seachem first started around 1983 in a basement: Today SeaChem Laboratories is one of the leading cutting edge aquatic conditioner, treatment/medication, and general aquarium pharmaceutical companies. Especially with the demise of Aquatronics (which was a major innovator of aquatic pharmaceuticals), Sea Chem has “stepped up to the plate” with their unique and first rate product line.

Prime is the complete and concentrated conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Prime removes chlorine and chloramines. Prime converts ammonia into a safe non toxic form that is readily removed by the tanks bio filter. Prime can be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Prime detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the bio filter to more efficiently remove them.

* Removes Chlorine & Chloramines

* Detoxifies Ammonia and Nitrite (most test kits will still test positive since they cannot test ionization changes in ammonia or nitrites).
This detoxification process is IMMEDIATE!
Reference: SeaChem Support; Prime Questions

* Prime will also detoxify any heavy metals found in the tap water at typical concentration levels (not meant for removal of large concentrations or chelated metals)

* Promotes the generation of a natural slime coat

* Non acidic and will not impact pH or over activate skimmers

* Can be dosed up to 5 times the standard dose for nitrite emergencies (standard dose removes 2.2 ppm nitrite when no ammonia and low amounts of nitrates are present)

* Most Salicylate or Nessler based ammonia test kits (such as the API Ammonia Test) cannot discern between highly toxic ammonia (NH3) the and safe non toxic form of ammonium produced after use of Prime, resulting in positive tests for ammonia. Do not be alarmed as this is still useful information as to your tanks cycling progress.

*Consider the use of the SeaChem Ammonia Alert which uses an innovative color device which also uses a gas exchange sensor for continuously detecting and monitoring toxic free ammonia and will ONLY display toxic NH3 ammonia (please click on the link to our Test Kits page to purchase)

SeaChem Safe, complete aquarium water conditioner from American Aquarium

*SeaChem Safe is a similar concentrated powdered version of Prime™ and is the complete and concentrated dry conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Safe™ removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia as well perform all other aspects of water conditioning that Prime does (other than removal of some metals).
While Safe is a similar dry version of Prime, with the exception that it does not detoxify heavy metals, nor will it stimulate the natural slime coat of the fish. Unfortunately, due to its dry state, those benefits can not be achieved.
Safe cannot be made into Prime, as it does not have stabilizers like Prime and will not last long term in a liquid form. If diluted into a liquid, it must be used immediately. For these reasons, for the average aquarium keeper, AAPs founder recommends Prime over Safe.

*SeaChem Safe™ will not over-activate skimmers.

*Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.

*Directions: Use 100 mg Safe (scoop) per each 100 L (25 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or per 25 L (6 gallons) for ammonia. May be added to aquarium directly, but best if added to new water first.

SeaChem StressGuard, fish healing slime coat stress reliever

• 500 mL (16.9 oz.) - $15.99
(Treats 1000-2000 gallons)

• 250 mL (8.4 oz.) - $9.99 (Treats 500-1000 gallons)

SeaChem StressGuard is a premium slime coat protection product (along with AAP Sheildex, Quinex & Res-Q which each have unique usages).
StressGuard is useful to reduce stress and ammonia toxicity whenever handling or transporting fish.

*For Fresh or Saltwater

*Contains protein active colloids.
This protein active colloidal agent actively seeks out any wounds, abrasions, or places where exposed proteins are and attaches to this area to help directly deliver the disinfectant in the product and start the healing process.

*StressGuard has a pH of 7.0. It will not affect the pH of an aquarium, even at large doses. Unlike competing products that are often acidic.

*StressGuard contains an aldehyde is not compatible with any copper remedy on the market. Aldehydes are reducing agents that will reduce copper to a toxic state.
For this reason, do NOT use StressGuard with Medicated Wonder Shells (regular AAP Wonder Shells are OK)

*INGREDIENTS: Proprietary aqueous solution of salts, polycycloglutaracetal disinfectant, and non-amine based polymer.

Use 1/2 – 1 capful (2.5 – 5 mL) to every 40 L (10 gallons*) daily until signs of stress have abated or healing is complete. Dose may be safely doubled.

Consider these products from our "AAP Professional Treatments" line of products instead of Prime or StressGuard:
*AAP Shieldex
A professional and superior water conditioner for chlorine removal, heavy metals, and most importantly slime coat. Vastly superior to Stress Coat

*AAP Res-Q
A professional and superior water conditioner for chlorine removal that provides a MEDICATED slime coat. A great alternative to StressGuard and vastly superior to Hikari Bio Bandage and Stress Coat

Sea Chem Marine Buffer, freshwater, saltwater KH control

• 1 kg (2.2 lbs)- $19.99;
• 8.8 oz (250 grams)- $7.99:

*Safely Raises PH to 8.3
*Treats 4000 gallons.

Jump to Shopping Cart

*Marine Buffer will safely raise Marine (or African Cichlid) pH to 8.3. It will not raise pH above 8.3 even if inadvertently overdosed. Marin Buffer is a blended product and is not just sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate, commonly sold as a substitute. Such products can raise pH to dangerous levels if not used properly. Marine Buffer contains sodium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and potassium salts of carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate, and borate. Use a pH and KH test kit to check pH and alkalinity.
This is the exact product as Malawi Buffer as both increase KH and when used full strength (or even overdosed) will not raise pH past 8.2-8.3

This product can be safely used for raising kH (& pH) in freshwater as well and is preferable and safer to baking soda, especially in community aquariums where baking soda can change pH too quickly

Sea Chem Malawi, Lake Victoria Buffer, freshwater KH control

300 gr. (10.6 oz.)- $8.59:

*Safely Raises PH to 7.8- 8.3
*Treats up to 900 gallons.

Jump to Shopping Cart

*AAP Malawi Buffer is a blend of carbonate salts designed to enhance the natural environment of cichlids (or other fish such as livebearers that require similar water parameters) by increasing carbonate hardness, buffer capacity, and pH.
The use/results/formula are similar to SeaChem Gold Buffer.

Excellent for use with ALL community freshwater fish, especially livebearers and goldfish. Dosing is generally lower for community aquariums; simply use just enough to maintain the desired KH
Buffers are generally best tested via KH, not pH, otherwise using buffers for exact pH maintenance can result in dangerous pH chasing.

SeaChem Alkaline plant buffer, FW KH control

AAP/SEACHEM ALKALINE BUFFER 300 gr. (10.5 oz.) - $8.99

Jump to Shopping Cart

Alkaline Buffer™ is a non-phosphate buffer to raise pH and alkalinity (KH) in planted aquariums. Alkaline Buffer raises pH and buffers between 7.2 and 8.5. It is gentle, safe, and enhances the freshwater environment. I recommend this buffer when keeping aquatic plants, or soft water fish such as Discus. Yes, a KH buffer is still important for soft water fish so as to maintain pH stability, however I recommend a method to acid buffer as well to balance the KH such as SeaChem Acid Buffer or Atisons Spa Almond Leaf (or similar products)
Alkaline Buffer is a straight Buffer, unlike Marine, Malawi, or Tanganyika which have a chemistry to raise the pH to a certain value while increasing KH (when used at full strength), as well the other SeaChem Buffers add essential minerals while Alkaline Buffer is only a pure carbonate buffer, making Alkaline Buffer the better choice for planted aquariums or any freshwater aquarium where additional mineralization is not necessary or is added via different products (such as Wonder Shells or SeaChem Replenish).

Please see this article for more about pH/KH: “Aquarium KH, GH, pH, More”

SeaChem Acid Buffer for planted aquarium pH stability

AAP/SEACHEM ACID BUFFER 300 gr. (10.6 oz.) - $8.99

Jump to Shopping Cart

SeaChem Acid Buffer with proprietary powdered bisulfate salts is a non-phosphate buffer to lower pH and counter buffer meant to work with Alkaline Buffer (for pH stability). Both buffers are designed for the planted aquarium or for very hard water where phosphate buffers may pose an algae or cloudiness problem. Acid Buffer lowers pH and buffers between 5.0 and 8.0 when used with Alkaline Buffer. As Acid Buffer lowers pH it converts KH (carbonate alkalinity) into available CO2 for plants.
SeaChem Acid Buffer may also be used to safely lower pH in marine water.

SeaChem Replenish RO mineral additive

Replaces essential mineral salts removed by the process of Reverse Osmosis, De-ionization or Stress (mineral Cations for Redox)
NET 250 ml.
Treats 250-500 US Gallons

Jump to Shopping Cart

SeaChem Replenish is a proprietary blend of salts designed to replenish important minerals that are removed by reverse osmosis or de-ionizing filtration prior to aquarium use.
SeaChem Replenish restores General Hardness (GH) using a balanced blend of both “soft” (sodium, potassium) and “hard” (calcium, magnesium) salts/cations.
Restoration of essential minerals is essential since a complete lack of minerals resulting from the use of RO or DI water will result in osmotic stress. Osmotic shock can be a result of a breakdown in osmoregulation due to inappropriate chemical composition of the water. It can also be caused by increased permeability of the skin resulting from a disease or trauma. Osmoregulation enables fish to maintain the proper balance of salt and water in the body, which is necessary to create optimal conditions for various physiological and biochemical processes.
We recommend the use of Sea Chem Replenish when RO or DI water is used either in part (for "cutting" tap or well water) or as a MUST use when 100% RO water is used.
Wonder Shells can work as a compliment for a more constant source of positive mineral ions after initial replenishment.

*One 5 mL capful of Replenish added to 10 gallons RO/DI will raise GH 2.8 dGH (50 ppm)

Seachem Products Reef Builder 600 gram for marine alkalinity, minor elementsSeachem Products Reef Builder 1.2 kg for marine alkalinity, minor elements

• 600 gram - $12.99

• 1.2kg/2.6lb - $23.99

*SeaChem Reef Builder™ raises carbonate alkalinity without immediately impacting on pH. With long term use there will be a tendency to stabilize at pH 8.3

*Used as directed, Reef Builder™ will not deplete calcium, magnesium, or strontium which usually tend to precipitate with increasing alkalinity

*We recommend the use of Reef Builder over SeaChem Marine Buffer when pH is not an issue. Since Sea Chem Reef Builder contains the important minor elements; calcium, magnesium, and strontium, it is a preferred product to raise alkalinity as it compensates for the inevitable loss which occurs when raising alkalinity

• 250 mL - $7.49

*Supplies essential trace elements for both reef marine aquariums or fish marine (saltwater) aquariums

*Reef Trace™ supplies a broad range of trace elements known to be necessary for correct reef health and growth. These trace elements are normally depleted by utilization, oxidation and precipitation. The latter two processes occur more rapidly than with other micronutrients. This makes it important to restore trace elements with Reef Trace on a regular basis.

Boron -0.028 mg, Cobalt -0.0003 mg, Copper -0.032 mg, Maganese -0.085 mg, Molybdenum -0.003 mg, Zinc -0.169 mg, Rubidium -0.00008 mg, Nickel -0.00003 mg, Vanadium -0.00002 mg

Seachem Reef Iodide for marine aquariums

Jump to Shopping Cart

*SeaChem Reef Iodide™ is a concentrated (8,000 mg/L) stabilized potassium iodide source for reef aquaria that will restore and maintain iodide levels to those found in natural sea water. Unlike competing products, SeaChem Reef Iodide™ is complexed to a stabilizing compound in order to keep it in the iodide form when added to the aquarium. All of the product remains usable and fully bio-available. SeaChem Reef Iodide is formulated to provide a safe source of iodide that will not convert to toxic free iodine under storage or reef conditions. Iodine is as toxic as chlorine and should never be used in a reef system. However, iodide is as safe as chloride.

Most iodine supplements on the market are simply potassium iodide or a medicinal disinfectant commonly known as Lugol’s Solution. Lugol’s is a highly concentrated iodine/iodide solution that is highly toxic and intended for disinfection.
Potassium iodide only products are a safer alternative than Lugol’s Solution however these products are not very effective alone owing to the unstable nature of iodide in the aquarium environment. When added to an aquarium environment, iodide becomes unstable converting to elemental iodine (which is biocidal), iodate (which is useless to corals, toxic at elevated levels, and can't be tested for), and iodide which is the only form of iodine available to corals for uptake.

SeaChem Reef Magnesium, chloride, and sulfate salts

Jump to Shopping Cart

*Treats 2400 gallons (9600L)

*Our Reef Advantage Magnesium is a concentrated (80,000 ppm) optimized blend of magnesium, chloride, and sulfate salts designed to restore depleted levels of magnesium with minimal impact to the ionic ratios found in natural sea water.

*Reef Advantage Magnesium contains no ammonia, which is a common contaminant in every liquid magnesium supplement on the market.

*Severely depleted levels of magnesium (below 800 mg/L) can cause depressed pH levels and an inability to maintain proper calcium levels. Magnesium depletion is commonly associated with the use of kalkwasser.

*USE: 1 level teaspoon (5g) per 20 gallons twice per week.
BETTER; Test for magnesium and add as needed to keep 1,200-1,350 mg/L
DO NOT OVERDOSE: As excess magnesium may enhance the loss of carbonate alkalinity.

SeaChem Calcium Gluconate

Jump to Shopping Cart

*Maintains Calcium, Accelerates Coral Growth.
*NET 500 ml, treats 2000 gallons.

Reef Calcium is concentrated (50,000 mg/L) bio-available polygluconate complexed calcium intended to maintain calcium in the reef aquarium without altering ph.
Polygluconate coplexation confers several benefits: It increases the bioavailability of calcium, it provides a rich source of metabolic energy to help maintain peak coral growth, and it prevents calcium precipitation/alkalinity depletion. Polygluconate contains no nitrogen or phosphates, thus it is biologically impossible to lead to algae growth in a properly maintained reef system.

SeaChem Kanaplex, Kanamycin Sulfate

AAP/SEACHEM KANAPLEX (Kanamycin Sulfate) by AAP- $7.69

Jump to Shopping Cart

5 Grams; Treats 600 liters (150 gal.)

*Blended Kanamycin based medication that safely treats several fungal and bacterial diseases (Dropsy, Popeye, tail rot, septicemia, flexibacter), as well Kanamycin has been shown often effective for Mycobacterium marinum (Fish TB).
Because it is absorbed by the fish it is useful in treating internal infections in those situations where food is refused. It does not adversely affect the filter bed and is easily removed with carbon.

*Can be combined with the superior AAP Yellow Powder (premium nitrofurazone) (or the lower quality Furan 2) & Metronidazole for parasitic, fungal, & bacterial infections.
IN FACT, for Columnaris or difficult cases of Aeromonas, this combinations is often a MUST as combined these two medications form a symbiotic bond that is not completely understood, but what is known is used alone, these two are often ineffective for Columnaris.

*For in tank Use; Use 1 level measure (180 mg) to every 5 gallons (20 liters) every other day for 3 days. In severe cases every 24 hours and 6-8 doses can be used assuming water changes in between treatments.

SeaChem Metronidazole

Jump to Shopping Cart

5 Grams; Treats 1000-2000 Liters (250-500 gal.)

*Metroplex/Metronidazole is an effective and safe treatment for several protozoan and anaerobic bacterial diseases of fish (Cryptocaryon, Hexamita, Ichthyophthirus). It does not adversely affect the filter bed when used as directed and is easily removed with carbon. There is little danger of overdosing. Usual dose is 125 mg/40L (10 US gallons).

*Now Includes added excipients which are a substance formulated alongside the active ingredient to confer a therapeutic enhancement on the Metronidazole in the final dosage form. This results in facilitating drug absorption or solubility for a better and more effective product!!!

*Kanaplex can be combined with AAP Yellow Powder (or the lower quality AAP Furan 2)

*For in Tank Use; Use 1-2 level measures (included) to every 40 L (10 gallons). Repeat every other day until symptoms disappear.
Turn off UV while using.

*To prepare medicated fish food with flake, FD, or frozen fish food using Metronidazole; Use One Measure (2-5 gallon "in tank" dose) of Metronidazole per 15 minute fish food soaking for an average 60 gallon bio load aquarium (I use "just enough" water to mix fish food and Metronidazole).
After soak, pour entire contents into aquarium.

SeaChem Neoplex, Neomycin Sulfate

AAP/SEACHEM NEOPLEX (Neomycin Sulfate) - $8.49

Jump to Shopping Cart

10 Grams; Treats 800 Liters (210 gal.)

*Sea Chem NeoPlex is a broad spectrum antibiotic effective against most external infections of both marine and freshwater fish. Used as directed, Neomycin will not discolor the water or damage the filter bed. It is well tolerated by invertebrates, although delicate species may be stressed. For use in freshwater or marine aquaria.

*Neomycin is ineffective against fungi, yeast and viruses.

Neomycin is not absorbed by the intestinal tract and is effective in treatment of diseases thereof. But Neomycin can damage the kidneys as it is nephrotoxic when it enters the bloodstream, however since this drug is not readily absorbed in the intestinal tract it is useful for treatment of pathogens such as Intestinal Aeromonas that can lead to Dropsy or similar diseases.

Neomycin is very effective when used in feeding (by soaking foods with Neomycin for about 15 minutes in water prior to feeding) due to the fact that this antibiotic does not get absorbed.

*For Fish Food Soak: Use One Measure of Neoplex per 15 minute fish food soaking for an average 60 gallon bio load aquarium (I use "just enough" water to mix fish food and Neomycin).
After soak, pour entire contents into aquarium.

*For in Tank Use; Use 1 level measure (included) to every 8 L (2 gallons). Repeat once a week for up to three weeks until symptoms disappear.
Turn off UV while using.

SeaChem PolyGuard, malachite green, sulfa, quinacrine, and nitrofurazone medications

Jump to Shopping Cart

10 Grams; Treats 800 Liters (210 gal.)

*PolyGuard is one of the more effective medications to keep freshwater fish free of disease!
It can be an effective treatment and safeguard against all prevalent bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases of exotic fish.
A reasonable alternative treatment for Columnaris and fin/tail infections providing good water management (including Redox Balance) is utilized often along with topical treatment of any sores/infection with AAP Wound Control or maybe Methylene Blue.
Contains malachite green, sulfa, quinacrine, and nitrofurazone medications

*Dosing: Use 1 measure (included) per every 40 L (10 US gallons) of water. Repeat this dose every 72 hours for a maximum of 2 weeks. Repeat every 3 days for up to 2 weeks or until symptoms disappear. Can be used whenever introducing new fish.

*NOT SAFE for Invertebrates!!

* A similar alternative to PolyGuard is to use a Medicated Wonder Shell & AAP Yellow Powder (premium nitrofurazone) (OR AAP Furan 2).
PolyGuard would be stronger for many parasitic issues, in particular Ich, as well as stronger for fungal infections.
While the Medicated Wonder Shell/AAP Yellow Powder (premium nitrofurazone) combination would be better for most bacterial problems and also provide mineral Cations to lower oxidative stress.

SeaChem Sulfaplex, sulfathiazole medication

Jump to Shopping Cart

10 Grams; Treats up to 1600 Liters (400 gal.)

*Sulfathiazole is an effective and safe treatment for many bacterial, fungal and protozoan infestations in the aquarium.
Usual dose is 250 mg per 40 L (10 gallons), but dose may be increased up to four-fold. Easily removed with carbon and does not impair nitrification.

Dosing: Use 2-3 measures (240-360 mg) to every 40L (10 US gallons). This dose may be increased up to four fold if symptoms do not subside.
Repeat every 3 days for up to 3 weeks or until symptoms disappear.

Contains Sulfathiazole

SeaChem ParaGuard Ich Treatment from American Aquarium

AAP/SEACHEM PARAGUARD (250 mL- 8.5 oz.) by AAP - $10.99

Jump to Shopping Cart
Treats 500 gallons.

*ParaGuard is a fish and filter safe aldehyde based parasite control product (for parasites on fish).
Unlike toxic and sometimes difficult to use formalin based medications, ParaGuard contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH.

*ParaGuard employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green and fish protective polymers that effectively and efficiently eradicates many ectoparasites (Ich, etc.) and external fungal/ bacterial/ viral lesions (such as fin rot or secondary infections).

*ParaGuard is especially useful in hospital or receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced into a community tank.

*ParaGuard is generally shrimp and snail safe when used as directed

*As well ParaGuard can be combined with Kanaplex and AAP Furan 2 for a potent treatment for some stubborn fungal infections (such as Ichthyophonus) or even Angelfish Virus (AKA Angelfish Aids). Please note that this combination is a potent treatment and should be used only in extreme cases.

*Finally, ParaGuard can also be combined with Metronidazole for often effective nematode (worms) treatment.

*Dosage: 5 mL (one capful) per 10 gallons daily (a small water change of 10-20%just prior to each treatment can increase effectiveness).
For 30-60 minute fish baths, use 3 mL per 1 gallon.
1/2 Dose is suggested for delicate fish such as Cory Cats or Clown Loaches.

SeaChem Cupramine Copper treatment of aquarium or pond

AAP/SEACHEM CUPRAMINE (250 mL- 8.5 oz.) by AAP- $17.99

Jump to Shopping Cart
Treats 1250 gallons.

*SeaChem Cupramine™ is fully charged (ionic) non-acidic, less toxic to fish, remains in solution, and does not contaminate the filter bed as most chelates can. Cupramine is superior to copper sulfate, chloride & citrate, and is active at low concentrations. When treatment is finished, Cupramine (unlike many Copper Solutions) is removable with carbon

*Cupramine is effective at complete eradication of Oodinium, Cryptocaryon, Amyloodinium, Ichthyophthirius, Chilodonella, and other ectoparasites of both freshwater and marine fish.

*EXCELLENT for pond use, especially when used as an economical preventative for Ich, Velvet, and even mild fungus prevention.

USE: Remove ALL invertebrates, and remove chemical filtration such as Carbon, Purigen, Chemipure.

* 100 ml treats 100 gallons, while 250 ml. treats 250 gallons.

* Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike most other filtration products.
Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, rather a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all others by over 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and often hard to control nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds, with minimal impact on trace elements.

*SeaChem Purigen polishes water to unparalleled clarity and darkens progressively as it is exhausted

*Purigen removes many tannins and other organic water "yellowing" by-products that carbon cannot (this is especially helpful to use with new driftwood or to lower the "yellow" color of aquarium 2-3 days after introduction of Indian Almond Leaves or Peat)

*Purigen is easily renewed by treating with bleach and is designed for both marine and freshwater use.

*Purigen can be combined with Matrix or NPX Bioplastics Nitrate & Phosphate Reducing Polymer for even better results.

*However in planted freshwater aquariums, we primarily recommend SeaChem Matrix (as well NPX Bioplastics Nitrate & Phosphate Reducing Polymer is generally intended for Marine aquariums with a Protein Skimmer, although use with Purigen including a planted freshwater aquarium would be an exception).

*Since Purigen can affect Redox negatively as with similar products, use with caution in an aquarium with unbalanced Redox and use with products such as Regular AAP Wonder Shells is advised.

*250 mL. treats 115 gallons for new aquarium/pond or up to 1000 gallons for an established aquarium/pond
1 liter Pond Stability treats up to 4000 gallons

*Aids in establishing both aerobic (nitrifying) & anaerobic (de-nitrifying) bacteria in new tanks/ponds with its blend of synergistic blend of aerobic (including encapsulated oxygen) and facultative bacteria.

*Stability is useful to add after a sudden increase in bio load of established aquariums

*Stability™ is the culmination of nearly a decade of research and development and represents the current state of the art in natural biological management.

*Unlike competing products, the bacteria employed by Stability™ are non-sulfur fixing and will not produce toxic hydrogen sulfide.

*Pond Stability® will rapidly and safely establish the pond biological filter in new ponds, as well Pond Stability® will also prevent and reduce sludge build up.

*Stability IS the superior non-refrigerated Aquarium & Pond Cycling aid (as per observations by aquarium/pond maintenance professionals); there is NO better non-refrigerated Aquarium & Pond Cycling aid!
*Use of Stability is also suggested 12 hours after each use of many medications such as Erythromycin that can harm your bio filter

SeaChem Pond MatrixSeachem Matrix Premium Aquarium Bio Filter Media

POND MATRIX 4 Liter- $42.99

Jump to Shopping Cart

*SeaChem Matrix™ is a high porosity bio media that provides efficient bio filtration for the removal of nitrogenous waste, including nitrates via anaerobic de-nitrification deep inside the pore complex of this product.

*Each liter of Matrix provides as much surface as 170 liters of plastic bio balls! Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area for nitrification. Matrix has macropores that are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™ to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.

Sea Chem Matrix use in bowl

*SeaChem Matrix can also be used in a bowl (such as a Betta bowl) to control ammonia/nitrites/nitrates in between water changes.
Placing the Matrix in a drilled medicine bottle works very well, although even using the Matrix as a substrate can help.

*Matrix is a "First" choice filter media for use in planted freshwater aquarium, as does not rob certain nutrients ("ferts") from the water column as products such as Hagen Clearmax or even SeaChem Purigen can.

*Pond Matrix (which can be used in high flow, large aquarium filters too), provides internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Pond Matrix, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter (Pond Matrix is sufficiently sized that it does not require a filter bag).

*Standard or Pond Matrix rarely ever needs replacing

*For Aquarium or small Pond (under 200 gallons); Use 500 mL of SeaChem Matrix for each 200 L (50 gallons) of water. Matrix™ may be placed in any type of filter, and is particularly effective in canister filter & wet/dry filters

*For Pond Filtration; use 2 Liters of Pond Matrix™ for each 200-400 gallons of water. Use in any pond or large aquarium filter.

*Pond Matrix makes an excellent support for root development of aquatic plants and may be used for Pond Veggie/Bog Filters or in pots.

*Bluntly, Pond Matrix IS the superior pond bio media for the complete nitrogen cycle AND plant potting as well by a wide margin!

Limit 2 POND Matrix per purchase

*For a less expensive alternative to Matrix (albeit not as effective either), consider our Volcanic Rock.

Seachem PhosBond Phosphate Remover

PHOSBOND 250 mL- $12.99

Jump to Shopping Cart

SeaChem PhosBond combines ferric oxide with alumina oxide into a singular material.
PhosBond is a revolutionary new product that combines the phosphate removing capabilities of both aluminum oxide and granular ferric oxide (GFO) into a singular material forming a synergistic effect.
It rapidly removes phosphates and silicates from saltwater and freshwater, combining the best of both types of phosphate removers. Its high porosity and surface area give it a large binding capacity, while its physical strength and integrity assures that it will not break down from mechanical stress.

*Safe for Fresh or Saltwater

*Safer to use than straight ferric oxide products when treating aquariums (such as Fluval ClearMax), as this synergistic combined product combines the safety of aluminum oxide and the higher phosphate removing capabilities of ferric oxide.

For best results, PhosBond™ should be rinsed before use and placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it but not so that it tumbles against itself in flow. It may be used in a canister filter, media chamber, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter. Use of a filter bag is recommended (such as the Lees).
Use 60 mL (¼ cup) for every 200 L (50 US gallons) saltwater or 400 L (100 US gallons) freshwater. Leave product in place for 4 days, then test phosphate or silicate concentrations. If the concentration of the component you are trying to decrease has not dropped to around 0.02 mg/L, then replace the PhosBond™, otherwise leave in place until levels begin to climb again.
