Max flow rate for level one Sterilization. 585 gph (maximum effectiveness- 30 gph/ 114 lph PER WATT). 200 gph for level two sterilization. Minimum flow 50-75 gph to prevent over heating. Max flow rate for Clarification 1000 gph (can be used for Ponds up to this flow rate if placed in a covered/protected area).
The average dose rate of UV on the Vecton 550 at 100Gph is around 23000 mJ/cm2. At 60Gph it would be 38000 mJ/cm2

Rated for up to a 165-525 gallon aquarium (or Pond as long as the Vecton UV is covered) for optimum level one effectiveness (smaller for level two), based on a water turnover rate of 1.5 times per hour or more through the Vecton UV at the recommended flow rate. Please note this UV Sterilizer can work for most any size aquarium under the maximum as long as there is at least a reasonable flow (such as 50 gph or higher used on a 25 gallon aquarium), as it is difficult to have too large a UV Sterilizer.

Flow Calculations for how we arrive at our flow and aquarium size calculations.
We go by these calculations NOT what any manufacture claims on their box! In the case of TMC and many other manufactures, they tend to over rate their UV clarification abilities. While for Sterilization, TMC in particular tends to rate the tank size per Vecton UV for level two Sterilization (albeit a little high here as well), NOT level one!
On most UVs these numbers which, while not perfect, and assume a few parameters such as low water turbidity and proper spacing between lamp/sleeve & inside wall of the UV, has proven over the years to be highly accurate for the author of the above cited article (Carl Strohmeyer). For us to change this formula to fit certain manufacturer sizing recommendations as some have asked would be highly dishonest for us to do.
Flow rates are based on actual flow rates after Head Pressure is factored in.

New Titan UV - Photocatalytically Enhanced Aquarium UV Sterilizer:
The Vecton Titan UV has been produced using specially selected photocatalytic material. The photocatalytic reaction provides a safer alternative to ozone for even cleaner water. Thanks to this Titan UV technology, the Vecton Titan UV is 1.3 times more effective than a standard UV sterilizer, making it more energy efficient. The photocatalytic lining also protects and further improves the lifespan of the high UV resistant plastic body. As with the rest of the award winning Vecton UV range; the Vecton Titan UV is designed with opposing inlet and outlet and comes with four stage hosetails for flexible hose from ½” to 1¼” for easy installation and connection to the water supply. These are held in place with screw on collars for easy removal when servicing and maintaining unit. There is a UV shield to prevent direct viewing of the UV lamp and the body is manufactured using impact resistant, translucent polycarbonate. Also included is an elbow connection, instruction manual, and a 3-year guarantee.
The enhanced body of the Titan sterilizer allows for about a 30% increase efficiency over the Vecton V2 Model. The photocatalytic lining of the chamber is more reflective creating a higher kill rate towards the outter side of the UV chamber walls. The lining also creates a reaction with the UVc that produces Ozone, which also increases the kill rate of the sterilizer.
"The oxidising action of the lining (production of Hydroxyl radicals) is a photo-chemical reaction that happens almost instantaneously on the active surface, and this adds to the sterilisation – it is not measurable in itself, but our studies (both our own and independent) show that it increases reduction of pathogens significantly."

Many pond UV Clarifier/Sterilizers currently on the market come with high price tags for features such as “wipers”, which do little to improve UV Sterilization (& often break quickly). When one considers a UV should be serviced every six months in the first place (wipers do little for the main problem that needs servicing; calcium buildup).
