Seachem Matrix (500mL)
*SeaChem Matrix™ is a high porosity bio media that provides efficient bio filtration for the removal of nitrogenous waste, including nitrates via anaerobic de-nitrification deep inside the pore complex of this product.
*Each liter of Matrix provides as much surface as 170 liters of plastic bio balls! Plastic bio-materials provide only external surface area for nitrification. Matrix has macropores that are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Matrix™ to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter.
Sea Chem Matrix use in bowl
*SeaChem Matrix can also be used in a bowl (such as a Betta bowl) to control ammonia/nitrites/nitrates in between water changes.
Placing the Matrix in a drilled medicine bottle works very well, although even using the Matrix as a substrate can help.
*Matrix is a "First" choice filter media for use in planted freshwater aquarium, as does not rob certain nutrients ("ferts") from the water column as products such as Hagen Clearmax or even SeaChem Purigen can.
*Pond Matrix (which can be used in high flow, large aquarium filters too), provides internal macroporous surface area. These macropores are ideally sized for the support of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. This allows Pond Matrix, unlike other forms of biomedia, to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter (Pond Matrix is sufficiently sized that it does not require a filter bag).
*Standard or Pond Matrix rarely ever needs replacing
*For Aquarium or small Pond (under 200 gallons); Use 500 mL of SeaChem Matrix for each 200 L (50 gallons) of water. Matrix™ may be placed in any type of filter, and is particularly effective in canister filter & wet/dry filters
*For Pond Filtration; use 2 Liters of Pond Matrix™ for each 200-400 gallons of water. Use in any pond or large aquarium filter.
*Pond Matrix makes an excellent support for root development of aquatic plants and may be used for Pond Veggie/Bog Filters or in pots.
*Bluntly, Pond Matrix IS the superior pond bio media for the complete nitrogen cycle AND plant potting as well by a wide margin!
For a less expensive alternative to Matrix (albeit not as effective either), consider our Volcanic Rock.
